Why did you get a tattoo?

I always admired my dad's tattoos.  One day I went out with my mom to get her tattoo.  I saw the tattoo being done and thought it was really cool.  I asked my mom if I could get one.  She said yes.  The guy at the tattoo parlor wouldn't tattoo me, so my mom took me to Corpus Christi, where they would allow it to be done with parents consent. There I got my first tattoo at age 15.

So tattoos are in the family?

Yes, my mom has one of a rose on her ankle and my dad has three tattoos.

What do your tattoos mean to you?

Well, my scorpion tattoo was mostly novelty.  I didn't even realize it was a horoscope until after I got it.
The Longhorn represented pride and accomplishment upon acceptance into The University of Texas.
I had it specially designed for me by the guy who did my first tattoo. It was designed pending acceptance into UT.

Were you happy when you first got your tattoos?

Thrilled.

Now how do you feel about your tattoos?

I love the Longhorn, but I am not too excited about the scorpion any more.  I will probably get it covered sometime in the future.

Do you think they are creative?

Yes. (with hesitation)

Many people get their tattoos from generic images.  People dont realize that they can get tattoos specially designed tailored to fit your personality, values, and lifestyle.  They are somewhat creative, I guess.  When the tattoo is specially designed it can be called creative.  The creativity comes from the person getting the tattoo.

Do tattoos have symbolism?
Tattoos mean different things to different people.
Tattoos are like dreams, there are many different interpretations.
